We’ve all heard the famous phrases: “Turn off the light when you leave the room!”; “So much time to shower!”; “Don’t leave the fridge door open!” The questions is: Millennials vs Boomers who is more efficient?
Based on the study “Good Energy III” carried out by Origin, we will find out which generation has the best attitudes towards energy saving in their daily lives.
What are Millennials and Boomers?
Millennials are people who were born between 1980 and 1997, while Boomers are people who were born between 1946 and 1964.
For most adults, Millennials are the age group that wastes energy the most. Whether using smartphones, laptops, or tablets, the connection to the electricity grid is constant. Therefore, parents and grandparents warn of the importance of saving energy and using it sparingly.
Likewise, Boomers also have their energy usage and expenditure preferences. They choose to equip and improve their homes with a swimming pool, air conditioning, or solar panels.
Choice of energy-efficient equipment
In this study, 56% of people aged between 55 and 79 years report making a conscious choice when they have to purchase a new appliance, opting for equipments with low energy consumption and a good energy rating. As for Millennials, only 31% of people aged between 18 and 34 buy efficient home appliances.
An excellent option to reduce energy consumed from the public grid and, consequently, save on the electricity bill is to produce your own energy through the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption. These are equipments that use clean and free energy, the sun, and transform this energy so that you can use it in your home.
Housing HVAC
40% of consumers surveyed reported to frequently use air conditioning in their homes. This solution allows you to heat your home in winter and also cool it in summer. Discover our Monosplit and Multisplit air conditioning solutions and eco-friendly equipment that allow you to regulate the temperature and purify the air in your home.
Duration of bath
According to this study, more than half of Millennials (18 to 34 years old) surveyed take more than five minutes to shower. As well as a quarter of people aged between 55 and 79 (Boomers).
Heat your showers with the support of a heat pump. This solution allows savings of up to 70% compared to other electric water-heating systems. In addition, it is an eco-friendly solution since it does not produce combustion gases, contributing to the preservation of the environment.
According to this study, Boomers are the most efficient in terms of energy-saving. It seems that the older we get, the more savings-oriented and concerned about the environment we become! However, 94% of respondents say they try to make choices that help reduce their energy bill. Therefore, Millennials are on a good path when it comes to the conscious and efficient use of energy.
